This concentration was a request by a friend who wanted just a pencil drawing of her. This piece i took as an opportunity to move away from chalk and try to go for a different medium. I like to draw in pencil a lot and i like this drawing, though what i have to say about this will make my opinion sound otherwise. This drawing feels a little rushed and i still feel like i could've done a lot better with my shading and likeness. The lips turned out a little pout like, where as in the picture, she isn't pouting whatsoever. I like this picture because it was like a little breath of fresh air, a change from what i was already using. This is my 4th concentration and add my friend on snapchat- sofia.guzzman.
This piece was inspired by my uncle who is a horse jockey. This man has shown me that if you work hard at what you want, you will definitely succeed. As i look at this picture, i feel it to have some missing value in the face of my uncle and the horse. This is a problem that will be left to be fixed in the future, as well as the background. The background will have an endless amount of horseshoes in various sizes place in different places in the page. One thing i do like about this piece is the way each figure is placed. One thing i dislike about this composition is the almost cartoony effect that i have put on it, i will try my hardest to make sure it will never happen again. Unfortunately i feel the use of chalk pastel that is having this effect. I will be using different mediums in the future. This is my third concentration, and i will do better in the future.
I love my mom with all my heart, and because my original concentration was memories from my life, I decided to draw her. She is an inspiration in my life to keep going with what i want from it and i can never thank her enough. My mom loves flowers so when i was in the process of coming up with this idea, i knew i had to put some kind of floral design of some sort. I would like to add a well done background in the future. I wanted to use bright colors to show my mom's bright personality. A challenge that i see that i have faced here was time. Time is still a challenge at this time because it feels like every project is finished in a rush. Hopefully i find a way to calm myself in these times of stress. My concentration to this day is portraits of family and friends. This is also my second concentration piece.
I'm not a huge fan of mixed media art but for this one i would make an exception. As my mentee Cassidy and I began to work on this, we jus put pieces together and quickly found a color that would be the central theme. Purple, a royal color that fit the nature of this piece very well.
One thing i learned while doing this project was placement, how to arrange items that would look pleasing to one's sense of sight. Cassidy and just took whatever we could find that was purple or cool looking and placed it in just the right spot. Something that was challenging about this project was not enough space. Right after we had completed this, we were left with some extra supplies that would help complement the art piece. Another challenge for me was deciding which part of the project me and Cassidy would receive. This art piece is one of my favorites that i have done. I feel the squirrel came out to be really realistic, especially the tail. I came up with the idea by thinking of mechanical items. When i came to nuts and bolts, i thought squirrels eat nuts so i took that idea and ran with it.
This is the project that i found my favorite medium at. This project helped me better myself in the chalk medium, learning how to mix colors well and blending so much better. One thing i could better improve on in this project would be the fence. The fence in my opinion could be better detailed, the wood just doesnt appear real enough. Another thing that i like about this project is the Matrix effect that the background has. I came up with this idea because of computer hacking in movies and stuff like that. This project was inspired by Bob Ross. I was watching a show on PBS and saw an episode of Bob Ross doing an amazing landscape. He used so many light and cool colors and i really like what came out.
I used cool colors because cool colors calm the nerves. I feel i could do better with my use of purple and maybe sharpening the mountains a bit. I received some great comments on what to do to further improve this piece. I made this to calm others as it does to me, because nothing is calmer than the steady flowing of water. Nature itself is calming so adding some happy trees in there is helpful. Mountains never move(obviously) which makes em very chill to be around. In this project, I show various emotions. Some of the emotions shown, i have never really truly been. One challenge i encountered was figuring out which emotions to portray. Another challenge in this project that i faced was placement. All in all i feel this project turned out great.
The way the idea came for the project was not intentional. At first this project was just going to be one giant head(center), but as i came closer to finishing i saw a lot of empty space. Knowing this i asked the people around me and they gave me the idea of creating other smaller faces. Even after that i was stumped on what facial expression each one would have. Miss Rossi also told me to do multiple faces and just one of each emotion. That is how this creation was born, with this each emotion was shown with chalk on construction paper. i learned how to carefully place objects and how to use proportion.
